Week 36

It started out as a super chilly week and thankfully ended with a little more warmth and sunshine!

The 1st graders came for a visit on Thursday and we showed them all around our schoolhouse!  2nd graders wrote letters to the 1st graders sharing all their favorite things about 2nd grade!

We enjoyed hammocking today for Fun Friday!  It was a beautiful day!

Bible:  When we've reflected on highlights from the year - the 2nd graders keep choosing Thursday Praise as being one of their favorite activities! What a blessing it is to hear these kiddos sing their hearts our to their Jesus!

ELA:  Each day as part of our phonics, students rotate through stations learning about a specific skill for the week. Here is a peak into what this looks like!

For writing this week we wrote a letter to a first grader who visited our schoolhouse on Thursday.  We shared some of the fun things about 2nd grade to help him/her get excited for next year!

We're learning about what makes up folktales, fables, and fairy tales.  As we read, we're trying to figure out what type of book it is.

Math:  We finished the Math Map test for the final time this year. We're learning some hard math in 2nd grade! Time telling and graphing!

Outdoor Learning:  We looked at our community in regards to Sassafras House. We know a lot about the spaces here!

On Tuesday we took our downtown Holland community trip and had a wonderful time!  We started at Pillar Church and learned about the history of Pillar and how it's important in our community!  Then we walked to the Police Station where we learned how the officers help our community.  We took a quick snack break and then went on a scavenger hunt around downtown.  We went to Window on the Waterfront for lunch and play.  Our afternoon consisted of learning about Holland Parks & Rec and how they are a big part of our community - many of the students have participated in different events sponsored by Holland Parks & Rec.  We ended with a bus tour through the Padnos Scrapyard to see the impact that recycling has on our community.  It was a wonderful way to wrap up learning about community!

Then we reflected on our time in our community discussing facts we learned, questions we still have, and our favorite parts of the trip!
