Week Two

August 28, 2025

We are learning, growing, and having fun in the forest! Yesterday and today, I've noticed a few extra big feelings and some quick tears (all have been resolved with some gentle reminders and a little problem solving ;) ). I am thankful a long weekend is upon us because I believe my sweet second graders need a small break to rest, sleep in, snuggle with Mom/Dad, and have time at home with their families.

Announcements & Reminders:

*Please remember to order lunch by 7am on Tuesday! Remember you must order in this time frame for the whole week. If you click on the three lines in the top left corner of the blog, there is a quick link to the lunch form.

*Please send back your child's empty Friday folder on Tuesday.

*There is an invitation in your child's Friday folder for a Pastor breakfast. Your child is encouraged to give this invitation to your pastor on Sunday.

*If your child does not have an extra set of clothes, rain gear, or rain boots/outside shoes please be sure to send those supplies in on Tuesday. This will help us be prepared for all parts of our day.

Bible: On Wednesday we joined all of Holland Christian for our All-School Convocation. It was a little sunny and a little warm, but it was beautiful. We are so thankful to worship together as school community!

ELA: We launched our Reading Workshop! We've started choose just-right books and are practicing stopping and jotting. This means that while we read, we are thinking. When a thought pops in our head, maybe one we'd want to tell someone else, we jot it in our Reader's Notebook!

We're reviewing some of the red words we learned in first grade with some fun spelling activities!

In writing we are practicing writing complete sentences. We know that a sentence must have: a capital letter, a complete thought, finger spaces, and punctuation at the end.

Math: We're reviewing math mountains! We're practicing drawing them, solving them, and writing an addition and a subtraction equation for each one! Whew - we're jumping right in!

Outdoor Learning: We've spent some time learning how to use our Nature Notebooks. We found a nature object on our hike and then practiced drawing and labeling our object. Then we added color and spent some time being still in nature.

Today we learned how to hammock! We hiked to the beach pond and learned how to put up our straps and connect them to the hammock. It was an adventure! We had a great time!
