Week 33

 What a beautiful week! We were able to do some extra learning outside with the beautiful weather! Praise!

*I've noticed a significant increase in the amount of homework not being turned in! We are starting to prepare for 3rd grade - please encourage your child to be responsible and get his/her homework and Friday folder packed up and ready to go!


*We are in need of plastic Meijer type bags for our snack trash. If you have extras of these and could send them in that would be great! Thank you!

-YOU'RE INVITED TO MOVE ON UP! 
Join your 2nd grader for "move up"day to Pine Ridge!  Get a chance to tour the building, see the outdoor spaces and hear from Mrs. Pereira about plans for next year. 
When: May 8 from 2-3pm. You may take your child home after 
Where: Your child will be bussed to Pine Ridge at 2pm and you can meet them in the gym. Please park in the baseball parking lot. 
Why: To get a peek at what 3rd grade Forest program is all about. 

No need to RSVP, but we'd love to see you there!

-Grandparents/friends Day

Please pass along our invitation to your special Grandparents/friends! We’d love to pull out all of the stops and welcome them to our beautiful spaces in our Forest. Friday, May 1 in three different celebrations we will give thanks to God for surrounding us with the support and care of loved ones. Please note the timeframes and locations for each age level:

  • 8-9:30am: Second grade will meet at Pine Ridge at 8am and board busses to the classroom

  • 10-11am: Combined Kindergarten AND 1st grade at 880 Ottawa Avenue

-Pastries With Parents: May 20 @ 8:30

Parents! You are invited to join us for a springtime celebration over pastries after drop off! Wednesday, May 20 during our typical chapel time, you are invited to join us in the chapel amphitheater space and enjoy a pastry together! We’ll be ready to welcome you from 8:30-9:00 at the cabin campus!

Bible:  We finished up learning about the Lord's Prayer this week and discussed it as a model prayer that God gave to us. We've started practicing some special songs to sing at Grandparents/Grandfriends Day!





ELA:  We moved into some writing about Grandparents/Grandfriends!



We're working on building our reading stamina!  



On Wednesday we learned all about Earth Day - but as forest kids - everyday is Earth Day!  




Math:  We're reviewing triple digit minus double digit subtraction - lots of ungrouping and regrouping needed!







Math...outside...yes please!  





Outdoor Learning:  We spent time this week looking around Sassafras Ridge for signs of spring!








We also spent time beautifying our learning spaces!  I am so proud of my sweet second graders - they worked so hard!  







And a cool treat to cool off after all that hard work!

*Wednesday, June 3: 1/2 Day of School - Last Day

Week One

Wow - what an absolutely fantastic week!  I am so happy to be on this journey with your family!  It's been wonderful to get to know your sweet second grader over the course of this week! I'm including some helpful reminders and upcoming important dates below the pictures.  Please be sure to take a close look and help your second grader be prepared for next week in case s/he is missing anything.  Thank you for your support and partnership!  I've included some pictures from our time together this week - snuggle up with your second grader and have him/her tell you about our adventures - enjoy!  Tuesday was wet and rainy, but that didn't stop us from exploring all around our new learning and playing spaces!   We read the book A Letter From Your Teacher On the First Day of School .  Then the students had a chance to write a letter to me!   Wednesday was chapel!  It drizzled on us some, but we learned where our "assigned" chapel log is, what t...

Week Two

We are learning, growing, and having fun in the forest!  Yesterday and today, I've noticed a few extra big feelings and some quick tears (all have been resolved with some gentle reminders and a little problem solving ;) ).  I am thankful a long weekend is upon us because I believe my sweet second graders need a small break to rest, sleep in, snuggle with Mom/Dad, and have time at home with their families.   Announcements & Reminders : *Please remember to order lunch by 7am on Tuesday!  Remember you must order in this time frame for the whole week.  If you click on the three lines in the top left corner of the blog, there is a quick link to the lunch form.   *Please send back your child's empty Friday folder on Tuesday. *There is an invitation in your child's Friday folder for a Pastor breakfast.
