Week 25
Wow! What an absolutely beautiful week we had in the forest! We loved the warmer temps and all the sunshine! What a blessing!
Announcements & Reminders:
*Please remember to order lunch by 7am on Monday! Remember you must order in this time frame for the whole week. If you click on the three lines in the top left corner of the blog, there is a quick link to the lunch form.
*Homework bags are due on Monday. We had some great talks this week about getting homework completed and returned on our own. Moms/Dads are welcome to assist as needed, but I would love for the 2nd graders to try being a little more independent with returning their homework bags.
*Thank you for signing up for Parent/Teacher conferences. If you still need to sign up, there's links at the bottom in the "Important Dates" section.
*Please try to pick your 2nd grader up from PR at the end of the day in a timely manner. We understand that things happen from time to time, but carpool typically ends around 3:30, so please do your best to be there before that. Thanks so much for your help with this!
*From the Office:
-Forest Family NIght Hike
Due to the icy conditions on the trail and the anticipated warming (icing) temperatures, our Night Hike is postponed. Please save the date for a new after-school, family event on April 23.
-Learning Opportunities for Parents and Educators
The ODC Network is launching a meaningful 4-part speaker series in 2026 featuring nationally-renowned experts who will explore how technology is reshaping our lives and offer practical ways to restore balance for ourselves, our families, and our communities.
Through the generosity of local donors, tickets for the talks in Holland are free (one per email address) and can be reserved HERE.
Mar 3, Dr. Scott Sampson, "The Coming Nature-Rich Urban Communities"
Mar 17, Lenore Skenazy, "Raising Kids in a Digital World"
----------
Bible: We finished up our study of the disciples. 2nd graders are bringing home a book they created about the 12 Disciples and I've asked them to share it with a parent this weekend. We also talked about how we, 2nd graders at Sassafras House, can be disciples. Ask your child - s/he has great ideas!
ELA: We completed a study of Black History month this week. We took a look at some important people in our nation's history and discussed how God loves each one of us as well as how we can share love with others just as Genesis 1:27 tells us that all people are created in His image.
We are continuing to write our animal non-fiction books. These are coming along great! Your child has become an expert on his/her animal!
Math: We're reading word problems, determining whether we need to add or subtract, setting up an equation (with double digit numbers that often require decomposing), and solving it! Today we started 2 step word problems! This is some hard math work!
Outdoor Learning: It's been amazing to see all the creatures that visit our Animal Kingdom when we're not there! Our animal homes are continually getting destroyed...but when we look at the trail cameras and see all the animals, we know why! We've found a lot of other evidence also! Then we spent some time reflecting on our project.
Star Student: Amelia was our Star Student this week! We had a lot of fun looking at her pictures and her poster. We learned that she wants to be a vet when she grows up and is really good at making people laugh. Amelia, you are a special child of God and we are thankful you're a part of our classroom family!
