Week 18
Our week started off chilly! Then it got sunny! Then it was less chilly and rainy. Then snowy and cold - whew! What a whirlwind of weather!
Announcements & Reminders:
*Please remember to order lunch by 7am on Monday, January 5! Remember you must order in this time frame for the whole week. If you click on the three lines in the top left corner of the blog, there is a quick link to the lunch form.
*If you haven't already - please send back swimming lesson permission slips - these are due on Jan. 5 in order for kiddos to participate. Thanks!
*There is an optional reading log coming home for Christmas break. 2nd graders are in the habit of reading 5x a week - please encourage continued reading - even over break! If kiddos complete the reading log - they can return it on January 5 for a small prize.
*All snow gear is coming home today as well. Please be sure to send back all snow gear with extra hats and gloves/mittens on January 5.

-Swimming Lessons
Our Holland Aquatic Center is providing swim lessons for us again this year! Because our children are blessed to be raised in Michigan, surrounded by bodies of water, we believe this safety instruction is a blessing that we pray they will never need but feel responsible to equip them. If you find yourself pondering over the “why” of swimming lessons, please take a listen to HC mom Jenny White on the why for swim safety. HCAC Swim School welcome video will help you understand a bit about the logistics. Our 1st-2nd graders will be bused to the pool each day the weeks of January 5-16.
-We’re Invited!
One of our local partners in education, Outdoor Discovery Center, is hosting a 4-part speaker series featuring nationally-renowned experts who will explore how technology is reshaping our lives. Please see the attached flyer to register for these free opportunities!
Bible: We "lit" the peace candle on our advent craft this week. These are coming home in Friday folders so that students can "light" the Love and Jesus candles over break. We also focused on illustrating Luke 2 and what this Christmas story really means.
ELA: We had fun reading Christmas books with a partner and writing a book review about our book.
Math: We're working on adding mixed coins. This takes some very focused work! We're counting pennies, nickels, dimes, and now quarters!
Outdoor Learning: Hiking in all this snow is a lot of work!
Star Student: Olivia was our star student this week. We had fun looking at her poster and pictures. We learned that she is really good at drawing and wants to be a vet when she grows up. Olivia - you are a special child of God and we are thankful you are part of our classroom family!
