Week 9

We had a fun PJ (comfy clothes) day on Monday - what a great way to start off our week! We had some sun, some rain, and a lot of time in our beautiful forest!

On Thursday we got to see our Y5 buddies again!  We were really looking forward to our time together!  We started with a nature scavenger hunt and I am so proud of my 2nd graders for being such great leaders and helpers to their Y5 buddy!

I am constantly surprised by the love of nature and the creativity these kiddos have in the forest!

Bible:  We worked on a project about how God made us unique and wonderful. These are now hanging in our lockers as a reminder that we're special just the way God made us! We spent some quiet time in prayer this morning.

ELA:  We are working hard on our character study. We've read our character study book quite a few times and are now experts on our character.

We started to assemble our Character Study projects today!  We took all our hardwork from the week and created our own book.  We will share these next week.

In writing we created leaf art with the leaves we collected during Outdoor Learning.  We told a partner about our creation and started to verbally tell our story.  Then we used an organizer to begin to get some of our thoughts down on paper.

After that we created a picture plan to continue to brainstorm our ideas.

Math:  We're still working on story problems, but are now looking at story problems with extra information, missing information, and hidden information. We have to be very careful readers to solve these types of problems.

Outdoor Learning:  We started our week with a leaf/nature hunt. We went for a hike and found many pieces of nature that were on the forest floor.

Then we created leaf/nature art!  We will use this art to tell a story in writing.

We tried ground art as well.  In a group, students needed to clear a space on the forest floor and had to work together to create some art.

We spent some time journaling in the forest.

Star Student: Finley was our Star Student this week. We had a lot of fun looking at Finley's pictures and poster. We learned that she is really good at arts and crafts and wants to be a teacher when she grows up. Finley, you are a special child of God and we are glad you're a part of our classroom family!
