Welcome to 2nd Grade!

Welcome to 2nd grade!  I am so excited to be on this journey with you this year!  It was wonderful to meet so many of you at our Open House & Parent Night on Tuesday!  If I haven't had the chance yet to meet you and your child, I look forward to meeting on Tuesday, August 19 - our first day of 2nd grade!  



Important Information Before the 1st Day:

*Water, water, water! Your child will need a spillproof water bottle filled with water every day. There will opportunities to refill their water bottle during our school day.

*Your child will need two quick, easy snacks to eat and a full lunch every day.

*Sign up for school lunch by Monday at 7:00am. 

*Please have your child to Pine Ridge between 7:50-8:10 each morning. We will load the bus at 8:10 and pull out right at 8:15.

*Confirm your child's going home plans on this document. If there are any changes, please let me know as soon as possible.

*Please email me with any allergy or medical needs that have not already been communicated with me. Thank you!

*Please have your child return their baton to school. I will keep this for the school year.


Clothing/Materials Needed:

*Second graders need to keep a clean pair of shoes inside Sassafras House. Please send your child with a clean pair of tennis shoes, slippers, slides, crocs, etc. that they would like to wear indoors.  These will stay at school all year.  

*We will attend gym class on Thursday.  Please send your child to school with gym shoes if they have not brought them already.  We will leave these inside our lockers at Pine Ridge.

*Gather any materials your child was not able to bring to the open house. Please have your child bring these on the first day of school.  We need rain gear, a hiking bag, a full set of extra clothes, inside shoes, gym shoes (at Pine Ridge), hammock, and school supplies.  

      -We are having our first hammocking adventure on Thursday, August 28. It would be very helpful for every 2nd grader to have a hammock by then.  The hammock we suggest is currently on sale (check the materials list below).  

*Thank you for all the wonderful classroom supplies.  If you have these and didn't have a chance to drop them off, you can take them to the Pine Ridge office with my name on them and I will get them from there.  Thanks!!  

*If you did not sign the ointment and topical sprays form at the Open House, please visit the Pine Ridge office.



From the Pine Ridge (PR) Office:

*Please call our school office at 616-820-3505 or email us at fs@hollandchristian.org for ANY attendance modifications (early dismissal, late arrival, absentee needs, etc.) Our office ladies, Kristi Washburn and Cara Karasiewicz, support student records and attendance. 


*If your child is absent, we need to know the symptoms occurring if they are absent due to sickness. This is documented for the health department. Please include the symptoms in your email or call if your child is absent.

Week One

Wow - what an absolutely fantastic week!  I am so happy to be on this journey with your family!  It's been wonderful to get to know your sweet second grader over the course of this week! I'm including some helpful reminders and upcoming important dates below the pictures.  Please be sure to take a close look and help your second grader be prepared for next week in case s/he is missing anything.  Thank you for your support and partnership!  I've included some pictures from our time together this week - snuggle up with your second grader and have him/her tell you about our adventures - enjoy!  Tuesday was wet and rainy, but that didn't stop us from exploring all around our new learning and playing spaces!   We read the book A Letter From Your Teacher On the First Day of School .  Then the students had a chance to write a letter to me!   Wednesday was chapel!  It drizzled on us some, but we learned where our "assigned" chapel log is, what t...

Week Two
