Week 2

Wow! Another week has come and gone! Time flies when you're having fun! And in second grade we are learning, growing, and having fun! It was a HOT one - muggy and buggy! You may notice a few extra mosquito bites! (If you haven't already done so, please feel free to send in bug wipes for your child to keep in his/her locker. We will put these on before heading outside.)

On Thursdays we have "Thursday Praise" in our school house. Miss Richardson led us through some beautiful praises this morning!

Reminders:

*Please remember to order lunch by 7am on Tuesday, September 3! Remember you must order in this time frame for the whole week. If you click on the three lines in the top left corner of the blog, there is a quick link to the lunch form.

*Our Check-In/Out form has been updated. If you need to pick up your child early from school or drop off late, please use this form that is specific to Forest School. I would recommend saving this on your phone or computer so you have easy access to it. Thanks so much!

*Walking Crew change! I hope you saw the email sent out this afternoon from Holland Christian in regards to Walking Crew. It stated we have 60+ walkers and due to the fact that this is an unsupervised walking crew, it is posing some safety concerns. Therefore, Walking Crew will be no more. If your child WAS part of the walking crew, would you please email me ASAP and let me know what his/her new end of the day schedule will be? Thanks so much!!

*If you returned a Volunteer Profile to me or to the PR office, we have this form, however we need a copy of the front of your driver's license. Please snap a picture on your phone and email this to fs@hollandchristian.org (if you haven't done so already). Thanks!

*Friday folders are coming home today. Please take a look at the papers, empty the folder, and send the empty folder back on Tuesday. Please also locate your child's baton and send it back on Tuesday (if you haven't already!).

*The white PowerSchool Information forms that came home last week were supposed to stay at home, I apologize. I didn't know this when I sent it home (if you returned it, it's been shredded). This form was for you to look at and see what information you have in PowerSchool - then if you have changes, you need to go into your PowerSchool account and change/update those. So sorry for the confusion!

Bible: We had our all-school convocation on Wednesday. This was a great time of praise as we came together as an HC community.

ELA: We moved into Readers Workshop this week!

We started by personalizing our Readers Notebooks. We made these our own by adding stickers, fun tape, and drawings.

Then we spent some time finding "just right" books to put in our book boxes for the week. We enjoyed purusing our classroom library to find books that we wanted to read!

Finally, we made our comfy seat choices and enjoyed our books!

Math: We started out by reviewing math mountains...which gave us a chance to practice some adding and subtracting as well!

Outdoor Learning: We got our Nature Notebooks and personalized them. Then we started learning how to journal in our notebooks. We will take these with us for Outdoor Learning and begin to fill our journals full of noticings and wonderings.

We found walking sticks! We will use these on our many hikes!

We read a book about making things beautiful - God gave us an amazing Earth to take care of. So we used some sidewalk chalk and made our entrance to Sassafras House beautiful! Just look at all these creations!

Today we hiked to the beach pond and tried out our hammocks. It was a great hike and a fun time! It took us a bit to get all our hammocks set up, but we're learning, and we enjoyed them!
